More so than in any other time over the last 4 decades of my life have I seen technology moving at such a rapid pace. As head of our amazing IT team at BuildDirect, I get to sample and test some great cutting-edge technology. This technology is generally related to our ecommerce site, our supply chain and distribution technology, our order fulfillment systems, VoIP, mobile devices and applications, sales/marketing/finance advancements or improvements, and many more areas. With so many new and exciting things being developed and implemented, it's often easy to get lost in such a diverse and rapidly changing technological landscape. Part of my job is to ensure our executive team also remains up-to-date with the latest and greatest technology. To that extent, I try to provide them with tools that not only make them familiar with new technology but the technology needs to seamlessly integrate with their work flow and productivity. Apple to Reveal More than a Tablet?

People all over are excited about the possibilities that Apple's new tablet is expected to open up. People have already heralded the device as the iKiller of all iKillers. The gadget of all gadgets. The one gadget to rule them all. Pretty lofty expectations for a device that Apple hasn't even publicly acknowledged. For years people have told me that Apple is more of a marketing company than anything else. Really? Well let's take a look at the marketing budgets of several leading software and consumer electronics companies. Both RIM and Microsoft spend almost 2-3x more marketing dollars as a percentage of revenue than Apple does. The difference? Apple is just great at the marketing game. Most of the others aren't. The iPhone 3G Coming to Canada

Mark July 11th on your calendar. The iPhone is coming to Canada and 22 initial countries on its roll out to more than 70 countries worldwide. Rogers in Canada will require a 3 year commitment but pricing will be the same as the US: $199 for the 8GB version and $299 for the 16GB version. Data and voice plans will be announced at a future date. The full press release is listed below. As expected, along with the new iPhone supporting 3G technology, Apple announced a number of products at WWDC including the replacement of .Mac with MobileMe and further clarified features in iPhone OS 2.0 and iPhone SDK. The BlackBerry Thunder

A new era in the mobile world is expected to begin on Monday with news from Apple of the next version of the iPhone. The importance of this cannot be underscored enough. On the heels of the iPhone announcement, BlackBerry is poised to release the oft rumored BlackBerry Thunder - their first release of a full-faced touch screen smart phone. Both devices are expected to accelerate increasing web traffic from mobile devices. They are also expected to operate on the faster 3G networks.
